About this project

The auxiliary role is foundational to the role and functioning of National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (National Societies). It defines their unique relationship with government and forms part of each National Society’s legal base, setting them apart from most other non-government and charitable organisations.

This project identified how Malaysian Red Crescent Scoiety (MRCS) has been recognised and formalised in domestic arrangements with the Government of Malayisa at both Federal and State level. It identified, analysed and consolidated the different roles and responsibilities assigned to the MRCS through national legislation and policies, as well as any agreements between the public authorities and the National Society. The process involved desktop research, consultation interviews and surveys with a wide range of MRCS, government and other partners. The final report analysed the research findings and recommended ways forward for strengthening engagement between MRCS and government authorities at different levels, which were captured in an Action Plan.
